Building Trades say nuclear plant construction means jobs
21 February 2010 WASHINGTON - For the nation’s construction unions, President Barack Obama’s announcement of $8.3 billion in federal loan guarantees to speed the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Georgia means one thing: Jobs.
And that’s why both AFL-CIO Building Trades Department President Mark Ayers and Plumbers and Pipefitters President William Hite were enthusiastic about Obama’s Feb. 17 announcement, made at the Electrical Workers Local 26 hall in Lanham, Md.
. . . .ITS UNFORTUNATE THAT THE UNIONS CAN BE SO MIS INFORMED ABOUT THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO GLOBAL WARMING..MOST OF MY LIFE I WAS A STRONG BELIEVER IN UNION PRINCIPLES...NOT ANY MORE IF THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF UNION THINKING...FOR INSTANCE "JOBS"IN THE NUCLEAR INDUSTRY ARE VERY HIGH PAYING BUT THESE JOBS ARE DESTROYING OUR PLANETS ENVIRONMENT. . .IT IS OBVIOUS FROM THE ABOVE NEWS CLIP THAT UNIONS CARE MORE ABOUT FAT PAY CHEQUES THAN PREVENTING CLIMATE CHAOS. . .WHICH WILL SURELY HAPPEN IF PRESENT TRENDS IN CO2 EMISSIONS CONTINUE.
