EARTH HOUR(2)

Let me see if I understand this: We're supposed to turn off the lights for one hour between 8 and 9 pm on March 29, but there are plans for a huge concert at Nathan Phillips Square to celebrate the occasion slated for precisely that hour.
What gives? Don't give me the bullshit about bullfrog and LED lighting and the plans to go almost completely acoustic. The show is going to require mics, trust me. The point is, it makes no sense to have the concert at exactly the hour when we're not supposed to be using up energy.
Why not gather at Nathan Phillips Square under dimmed public lighting at 8 pm, celebrate together, get out the lighters for some cool visuals, pull together some singalongs - maybe even light a bonfire?
And then have the eco-sensitive concert afterwards. The battle between as the world's largest retailer and those who oppose it constructing a new store on the site of one of the Civil War's largest and most important battles continues. DCist music editor Amanda Mattos reports that a letter signed by some 250 scholars, from Ken Burns to David McCullough, puts Wal-Mart on notice: "The Wilderness is an indelible part of our history, its very ground hallowed by the American blood spilled there, and it cannot be moved."
