OBAMA'S 54 BILLION$ GIFT

Obama will ask Congress in his 2011 budget -- to be unveiled Monday -- for $54 billion in loan guarantees to build new nuclear plants, up from the $18.5 billion now available.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, the top Republican on the Senate Energy Committee, tells Reuters that these extra loan guarantees are "a good first step toward expanding our use of clean nuclear energy."
. . . . . .THIS IS A HUGE MISTAKE FOR USA TO EXPAND NUCLEAR POWER CONSTRUCTION....AND WILL NOT ACHIEVE CLEAN ENERGY TARGETS. . . . .PLAEASE ASK YOUR REP IN WASHINGTON TO DENY THIS GRANT TO THE NUCLEAR INDUSTRY....ACCORDING TO SENATOR MURKOWSKI THIS IS A "GOOD FIRST STEP"......AND STEPS # 2,3,4,5,6,ETC..WILL BE MORE AND MORE BAILOUT MONEY FOR A DYING DINASOUR INDUSTRY.

The battle between as the world's largest retailer and those who oppose it constructing a new store on the site of one of the Civil War's largest and most important battles continues. DCist music editor Amanda Mattos reports that a letter signed by some 250 scholars, from Ken Burns to David McCullough, puts Wal-Mart on notice: "The Wilderness is an indelible part of our history, its very ground hallowed by the American blood spilled there, and it cannot be moved." In December, the company prepared to submit an application for a special-use permit to construct a store on a portion of the battlefield, which is part of Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park. As Mattos notes, the Battle of the Wilderness was the first battle between Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee.
