It's massively behind schedule. Construction that was supposed to take four years will now take at least six.
It's massively over budget. The original cost estimate was 2.5 billion euros. Now it's expected to top 4 billion euros.
The project was supposed to require no public subsidies. In reality it is reliant on an export guarantee financed by French taxpayers and a dirt-cheap loan from public banks.
The original quality requirements weren't being met - so they were relaxed. The consequences of a faulty reactor being put into service could be disastrous.And besides all that, nuclear power is a nightmare of problems in general. There's no proven solution to the piles of waste, encouraging more countries to use nuclear power leads to nuclear weapons proliferation, the plants are ready made terrorist targets... Nuclear is a costly and dangerous distraction from real solutions to climate change like saving energy and renewable energy. In Finland, for example, energy consumption by new buildings can be cut by more than 70 percent. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .the preceding text describing the events in finland dated june-1,2007 .. .. . . . .a similar story regards an outdated nuclear reactor in germany occured in 2007 where a fire broke out .. . . . .. . .. .. . . . . .. also just recently(see earlier posts on this site) in japan the worlds largest nuclear reactor had to shut doun completely due to quake damage. . . .. . . .. . .. . . . .MEANWHILE IN BEAUTIFUL ONTAR-I-AR-I-O,CANADA,THE ONTARIO LIBERAL GOVERNMENT IS VERY INTERESTED IN BUILDING MORE REACTORS .. . . . . .IN SPITE OF ALL THE PITFALLS MENTIONED ABOVE. . . . .IN THE COMING ELECTION IN OCTOBER REMEMBER TO VOTE FOR THE PARTY THAT PROTECTS THE ENVIRONMENT AND NOT ONE THAT DESTROYS IT BY THESE NUCLEAR MEGA PROJECTS.

The battle between as the world's largest retailer and those who oppose it constructing a new store on the site of one of the Civil War's largest and most important battles continues. DCist music editor Amanda Mattos reports that a letter signed by some 250 scholars, from Ken Burns to David McCullough, puts Wal-Mart on notice: "The Wilderness is an indelible part of our history, its very ground hallowed by the American blood spilled there, and it cannot be moved." In December, the company prepared to submit an application for a special-use permit to construct a store on a portion of the battlefield, which is part of Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park.
